βοΈ Why I Rebuilt It
The first version of the site was great, and probably one of my favourite sites I've built, it was simple and elegant, at least in my eyes it was. But it was also a mess, it was all hard coded, and poorly optimised. So it was well overdue for a major update.
Now this version is much better, but it will continue to evolve, especially in terms of the CMS side of things. I can really experiment and even use my CMS as an example to any future clients. I will also be able to continuously grow the site, and make it into a hub where I share what I am building, thinking or just messing around with. It is also a platform for me to give more insight into who I am, and why I think the way I do (hopefully that will make me more attractive to employers π. I'll keep you updated on that.)
π οΈ Under the Hood
The whole site is built on a super cool tool, that I have been using for a while now, for clients and myself. Astro (plz sponsor me) because itβs stupid fast and gives me full control, and it is amazing for building modern websites and web apps. Keep an eye out on here, as I will be posting some cool things about Astro and what can be done.
For the CMS side of things I have been using Sanity.io, which powers the blog, the projects page and a good portion of the home page. It makes content super easy to manage, and is so sick in terms of the customisation, which means each CMS can be unique to each client. I honestly cannot hype it up enough. hint hint
Then for styling, I used some custom css, and then a sh*t ton of Tailwind.
For hosting I used Netlify, just because it is what I have been using for the longest and know the ins & outs of Netlify.
I kept the stack pretty simple, so it was quick to build, easy to maintain and great performance.
π TLDR
- Blog is fully editable, so I can drop thoughts, updates, or experiments anytime
- Projects page is dynamic β pulls content straight from Sanity
- Built to be easy to maintain, but flexible enough to evolve with me
- Built & placed live in a day
If you wanna see how I build, think, and experiment, then this is the place.
Start with the blog or dive into another project.
I plan on improving the site going forwards, but the main core of the website is setup and only took me a day to get done and up.
